TOUR CELEBRATION: The Georgian Theatre Royal celebrates the Grand Depart

First published in News

TO celebrate the arrival of the Tour de France's Grand Depart in Yorkshire, a theatre is hosting three themed events to inspire cycling enthusiasts.

The Georgian Theatre Royal, Richmond, will first be hosting music group Djangologie, which will be taking audiences back to 1930s swing by recreating the sounds of Django Reinhardt, Stephane Grappelli and Hot Club du France, on Saturday, June 28 at 7.30pm.

On Sunday, June 29 at 2pm, the theatre will be showing A Day Out, a comedy film set in Edwardian Yorkshire that follows a cycling club’s outing to Bolton Abbey in 1911.

It was Yorkshire playwright Alan Bennett’s first television play and was directed in black and white in 1972 by Stephen Frears.

On Saturday, July 5 at 7.30pm musical group Encore will conjure up all the atmosphere of the French café-cabaret with a presentation of some of the best-loved songs of France, including Edith Piaf, Jaques Brel, Moustaki and Brassens.

This talented local duo comprises of vocalist Maggi Stratford and Daniel Bowater on piano, accordion and guitar.

Information on all events is available at the box office on 01748-825252 or at www.georgiantheatreroyal.co.uk.
