AT the end of a week that has seen the latest menswear designs paraded in London and avant-garde hats worn at Royal Ascot, students took to the catwalk in Stockton.

Artists from the town’s Stockton Riverside College have created an eclectic collection which was modelled three times today (Friday) alongside high street pieces in the town’s Wellington Square shopping centre.

Art and Design lecturer, Liz Dixon, said: “The show forms part of our students’ final project. We try to do something different every year and this offered the opportunity for our students to produce something that ultimately becomes a walking piece of art.”

Arranged by the college, Wellington Square and Stockton Borough Council, the fashion show saw the Art and Design BTEC Diploma student’s unique designs alongside looks by Topshop, New Look, River Island, JD, Roman, Marks & Spencer, Topman and Debenhams.

Hair and makeup was provided by Stockton Riverside College’s Theatrical Makeup students and models include Performing Arts (Acting) students and the event was compered by radio presenter Lisa Shaw from Heart FM.

A new BTEC Extended Diploma in Fashion and Clothing course is due to start at the college in September.

Rob Gildersleeve Wellington Square shopping centre manager, added: “The fashion show will offered a great mix, combining the best fashion from our retailers with the designs from the up and coming talent of Stockton Riverside College’s students.”
