VOLUNTEERS were on hand to harness the spirit of the 2012 Olympics by holding a sports event for young people.
Longfield Sports Academy, in Darlington, hosted an Asda Active Sports Day, led by Sports Leaders UK and supported by Asda Community Life, for their pupils.
The event saw youth sport leaders from around Darlington work with younger children at the school to help them get active and learn by their example.
Louise Gibson, community life champion for Asda, said: “The sports leaders are local young people who have committed to volunteering and I’m thrilled to support them.
“Keeping the spirit of 2012 alive in our local community is very important for youngsters and I hope this event will inspire them to get active, keep healthy, and volunteer themselves in the future.”
This summer Sports Leaders UK will be running subsided day courses that can help give young people better prospects of becoming a qualified sports leader.
