DARLINGTON Rotarians are tackling a 170-mile bike ride in three days in to raise around £3,000 for charity.

The 12-strong group are taking on the Way of the Roses from Morcambe to Bridlington, setting off on Friday morning (June 13).

It is the third annual sponsored cycle by Darlington Rotary Club members who have previously trekked from Edinburgh to Newcastle and cycled to Mulheim, Darlington’s twin town.

Organiser Nigel Little said the team has been training for around five months for their latest challenge and he was confident that all would complete the route.

He said: “We have been doing bike rides of up to 30 miles on a weekend.

“It’s not going to be a problem; we did it last year and we will do it this year.”

The money raised will go to local and national charity causes.

The Way of the Roses is the country’s newest coast-to-coast cycle route, having officially opened four-years-ago.
