A CAMPAIGN to promote weekly and monthly markets in Ryedale has been launched as part of a national drive to encourage people to use their local high streets.

Ryedale’s market towns have got together to push eight local markets with printed cotton shopping bags and post cards that will be distributed free to market customers over the next month.

Linda Cowling, leader of Ryedale District Council, said: “Local people and visitors are able to enjoy a market on almost every day of the week around the year, thanks to the four traditional weekly markets and four specialist farmers, food and craft markets that serve Ryedale.”

Kirkbymoorside market will be first to distribute the bags. Operated by the Memorial Hall Committee, it hosts 23 stalls selling a wide range of fresh local produce and household goods.

Chairman of the Memorial Hall Christine Richardson said: "Wednesday morning sees a real bustle in Kirkbymoorside, as the market provides a focus for the town centre, encouraging visitors and locals to visit our lovely town.”

The bags have been made and printed locally by Woodall & Sons in Malton Market Place.
