A DUCK race is being held on the river Tees to raise money for three armed forces charities.

The annual event will see plastic ducks floating from the Infinity Marine Cafe downstream on Saturday, June 28, at 1.45pm.

The first few to travel 200m and cross the finish line will win prizes including family tickets to Green Howards Museum and a limited edition statue of a First World War Tommy.

The ducks, which go on sale from Monday, June 16, cost £1 each, with larger corporate versions available for £100.

They can be bought from the Rediscover Shop on Stockton High Street, the Castlegate Centre or as well as on the day of the race itself at Infinity Marine Café.

All proceeds will go to three charities, The Rifles, The Yorkshire Regiment Benevolent Fund and 1 Close Support Battalion REME.

The Mayor of Stockton, Councillor Barbara Inman who is hosting the event, said: “It’s so important that we show our support and respect for servicemen and women both past and present. The proceeds raised will go to charities and organisations to support veterans and their families."
