NINE bin bags of rubbish were collected by youngsters during a community litter pick in Darlington.
Children braved the wet weather and driving rain this weekend to take part in the hour long event around the Borough Road area of Darlington.
The youngsters had been taking part in a creative families workshop at Scrap StudioArts, in Borough Road Nursery School, before the event and were helped by borough councillors Jan Taylor, Malcolm Wright and Chris Taylor, as well as the school’s head teacher, Lynn Millar.
Organiser Yvonne Preston said the event was part of the Love Where You Live campaign, which aims to reduce the amount of litter in England by 2020.
She said: “We filled nine full bin bags in an hour, as people often drop litter on that road.
“I was really pleased with the turnout, especially as it was throwing it down.”
She also thanked the councillors and school’s head teacher for their help during the event.
Creative families sessions at Scrap SutdioArts take place from 5.30pm to 7.30pm on Tuesdays, and from 10.30am to noon on Saturdays.
