Darlington Sainsbury's manager James Dale with birthday girl Joan Lancaster
A REGULAR shopper at Darlington Sainsbury’s was delighted when staff went the extra mile to mark her 90th birthday.
Joan Lancaster, of Darlington, was given special treatment as staff arranged with her daughter-in-law to present her with a surprise dinner along with a birthday cake, banners and candles, in the supermarket cafe.
Store manager James Dale also presented Mrs Lancaster with a birthday bouquet and discovered that she used to work as a secretary for John, now Lord, Sainsbury and his son, David, the owners of the supermarket chain.
