LAMBS and a horse were left in a distressed state after a bizarre break-in at a stables.
The burglars fed something to the lambs which has caused them discomfort before painting them with blue paint at the stables near Northallerton.
They also appear to have tried to saddle a horse, injuring its mouth.
PC Adam Scott said: “Whoever broke in has left the animals suffering in pain. They need to understand the consequences of their actions and the distress they have caused.
“I need to speak to anyone who has information which could help to identify those responsible for these acts of cruelty and urge them to contact the police straight away.”
The stables are in Castle Hills and the offenders may have used Springwell Lane or from Romanby to reach them.
"If you were in the area at the time when the animals were injured, I ask you to contact the police immediately," he added.
The incident took place between 10pm on Tuesday, June 9, and 1.30am yesterday, June 10, and it is not known if anything was stolen.
