A NORTH Yorkshire group is trying to reach out to as many carers in the region as possible who may not be aware support is available.

Hambleton and Richmondshire Carers Centre is joining forces with the national Carers UK QUEST campaign on the initiative, which is taking place to coincide with National Carers Week, starting on June 9.

The centre, at 32 High Street in Northallerton will have a range of information available in public venues throughout the week and is holding a carer event on Tuesday (June 10) at Thirsk Garden Centre on Blakey Lane from 10am.

Chief Executive Andrea Hobbs said people were also welcome at the centre during Carers Week.

“We really want people to come along and become more involved in supporting this great local charity in any way they can,” she said.

“We work with over 600 carers of all ages in one year, and without this local service some people simply wouldn’t have anywhere else to go for help or support.

“It’s vitally important that we raise awareness of carers and carer issues when there is such a drive to keep people comfortable in their own homes for longer because it’s often the person who is caring at home in an unpaid capacity that gets overlooked.”

National Carers Week aims to raise awareness of the roles of unpaid family carers within their families and neighbourhoods.

It is estimated that half a million children and young people nationally look after a family member in some way and 6.5m adults.
