TWO mountain bikes, together worth about £5,000, were stolen from a locked garage in a village near Northallerton.

Burglars stole the machines after breaking into the garage of a house in Newby Wiske overnight between May 26 and 27.

Detectives have now released pictures of the bikes - a red and white Giant Defy mountain bike and a red Giant mountain bike – in a bid to jog people’s memories.

Detective Constable Andy Palmer said: “If you saw any suspicious vehicles in the Newby Wiske area around the time of the burglary, I urge you to contact the police straight away.

“I also need to speak to anyone who has seen the bikes since the theft and ask them to contact the police as soon as possible.”

Contact Northallerton CID on 101, select option two and ask for Andy Palmer or email andrew.palmer@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk. Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555-111.
