Further diversions as work to replace congested roundabout continues

First published in News

DIVERSIONS have been announced as work to replace a congested roundabout continues.

The southern part of the Stonebridge roundabout in Darlington will be closed until Sunday, June 1.

Traffic travelling from Parkgate to Stonebridge will have to first turn left before returning via Feethams roundabout.

From Monday, June 2, the northern part of the roundabout will be closed with traffic having to turn left and travel to Freemans Place roundabout before returning along the ring road to Parkgate.

This will be the same for any vehicle travelling from Feethams roundabout turning right onto Parkgate.

Road users can keep informed of current and upcoming traffic management arrangements at darlington.gov.uk/Stonebridge.

There was a recent discussion on this subject and I pointed out that simulation techniques were available to plan the effects of changes on the flow of traffic and questioned whether they had been used before spending millions of pounds of ratepayers' money.

Miketually suggested I e-mail the roads department at DBC to ask them. I did and received a reply from a Mr Walecki querying which roundabout I was asking about. I clarified it was not the Town Centre roundabout but the one near Albert Hill.

I received no reply so the suspicion has to be that the council is carrying out these major schemes without being sure of the outcome. You are not sure it will make any difference. Sadly it seems the council are not sure either.

Remember that this has absolutely nothing to do with easing congestion and improving flow for car users.

It is a Bus Network Improvement Initiative.

There are signs around the work site confirming this. So don't expect things to be any better for car drivers. Remember, this council is VERY anti-car and they do their upmost to make the lives of motorists difficult at the best of times. Like the through about on Haughton Road, millions are again being spent and there will be no improvements made to the lives of motorists. It's a disgrace and those responsible should be sacked.
