PEOPLE living in homes owned by a Darlington housing association are being encouraged to enter a photography competition.

Railway Housing Association is looking for photographs that best capture community life in 2014.

The competition, which is being held to mark the association’s 95th anniversary this year along with the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War, is open to anyone living in its homes throughout Darlington.

People are being invited to submit one picture related to the community. This could range from a local event that brings the community together through to something as simple as two friends having a cup of tea in the garden.

The picture can be in black and white or colour and can be taken with any form of camera, including a mobile telephone.

They can be sent digitally via the competition page on the association’s website – railwayha.co.uk

There are two age categories in the competition, children aged up to 17, and adults aged 18 and over.

The winners in each category will each receive a 16GB iPad Mini and the runners-up will both get £50.

Anne Rowlands, Railway Housing Association chief executive, said: “2014 is the 95th anniversary of Railway Housing Association, so we wanted to do something special with our residents to mark this occasion.

“We would encourage as many people as possible enter the competition and we are very much looking forward to looking at the photographs.”

The competition opened on May 1 and will run until August 31.
