THERE were fabulous frocks and cake a-plenty as two pint sized pupils tied the knot in front of family and friends.
Four-year-olds Madison Evans and Jacob Nicholson said their vows and exchanged rings at a pretend wedding ceremony at St Columba’s Church, in Clifton Road, Darlington.
The ceremony, performed by Reverend Sheilagh Williamson, was planned and organised by the bride and groom, and dozens of their fellow pupils at Skerne Park Academy.
Their teacher, Emily Tonge, who watched the ceremony alongside proud parents, said the pupils had been planning the ceremony for weeks.
She said: “It was lovely. The groom got a little stage fright, but the bride said her vows perfectly.
“They have been interested in weddings at nursery so we decided to take their interest further.
“We have free play where they can choose what to play, and a lot of them have been acting out weddings.
“They have written out invitations, designed dresses and learned how to make cakes.
“They have learned new skills and have an understanding of the church and the community.
“Our parents really supported it and got behind it. They bought food for the buffet and attended the ceremony.”
