AN array of celebrations, events and entertainment are on offer during this weekend’s Barnard Castle Meet.

The event, billed as the biggest annual event in Teesdale, attracts hundreds of visitors.

The Barnard Castle Veterans vs Bowes Veterans football match kicks off on the Tens Fields, on Friday, at 6.15pm.

On Saturday, there will be a car boot sale on the Lower Demesnes field, from 9am to 3pm, a duck race on the River Tees, between the County and Green Bridges, at 2.30pm, and comedian Craig Campbell is performing at The Witham, at 8pm.

A pet show takes place in the castle grounds, on Sunday morning.

Entry for pets opens at 10.15am and judging starts at 10.30am, followed by the Barney Meet Sounds in the Grounds, including live music, falconry, a medieval encampment, and the crowning of the Meet queen at noon.

The event culminates with a grand procession through the town, on Monday, departing from the GlaxoSmithKline car park, on Harmire Road, at 1pm.

Thom Robinson, one of the event’s organisers, said: “Everything is on course and looking good for the weekend and we are really looking forward to it.”

A full programme of events is on sale at the Teesdale Mercury store, Connolly’s toy shop and The Cricketer’s Arms, in Barnard Castle.

Event organisers will be selling the documents in the town’s market place and at Morrisons, tomorrow (Wednesday).
