A 79 year old volunteer who has dedicated his life to helping other people has been given a community award.
Former postman Reg Eden was nominated for the award by staff at Dales Care the centre for elderly and vulnerable people in Bedale, where he works three times a week helping to provide lunches.
He was presented with the award by Bedale Town Council in recognition of his valuable contribution to the community. A Dales Care spokesman said Reg has been a dedicated and passionate volunteer for ten years.
“He helps out three mornings a week assisting the cook and ensuring that as many as 75 older people receive their lunch. He’s a well known figure in Bedale , many people remember him delivering the post from their childhood.
"Everyone here at Dales Care loves having him around - not only do we rely on Reg to help with the running of the charity but we all adore him, he is always happy. The Bedale community is incredibly lucky to have him,” he added.
