DETERMINED fundraiser Val Loughborough is once again planning to cycle through the pain caused by her Parkinson’s to complete a charity ride.
Mrs Loughborough, 70, was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2008 and found out after her chemotherapy treatment that she was also suffering from Parkinson’s disease.
This did not stop her from completing a charity bicycle ride from Walney Island, near Morecambe Bay, to Whitby last summer and this July Mrs Loughborough plans to tackle the White Rose Way from Morecambe Bay to Bridlington.
She is already training regularly but said her health has got poorer since her last challenge.
She added: “The chemotherapy damaged my feet, but I can cycle because you only have to keep your feet in one place.
“I said I was going to do this ride so I will – I don’t lack determination.”
Mrs Loughborough, of Barton, near Darlington, will be joined on her 175-mile coast to coast challenge by her friend’s daughter Berni Whitaker.
They aim to complete the route in five days, staying at guest houses along the way, and will be raising money for Parkinson’s UK.
