Search for best school attenders

THE search is on for County Durham’s most dedicated pupils.

Durham County Council is trying to track down teenagers in their final year of secondary school and children in their last year of primary school who have a 100 per cent attendance record.

Youngsters who have never missed even half a day in class throughout their whole secondary or primary school career will be invited to a special celebration event.

The evening, at Durham County Cricket Club, will include a tour of the club, awards presentation, photographs and a buffet.

Families who think a child may have 100 per cent attendance to date should contact the child’s school.

To be eligible for an award, the attendance must continue to be 100 per cent until the pupil’s official leaving date in the summer.

The council is also contacting schools direct in order to identify eligible pupils.

these awards in my opinion set the barrier too high for children. my daughter goes to bishop barrington and they have a much fairer reward system for good attendance. they have an annual trip to theme park for those children with good attendance not 100% but in the90% area and who are well behaved. these goals are better as good behaviour comes from the child itself which brings its own rewards as attendance can not be achieved the same way as a child cannot help being ill and shouldnt be punished as such for being away from school for this reason which is why i think awards are positive but should be restructured a little .
