REPAIRS to a road plagued with landslip problems have been completed.
The B6270 between Richmond and Reeth, North Yorkshire, fully reopened on Friday after a £1m programme of repairs to address the effects of the landslips.
North Yorkshire County Council carried out detailed geotechnical investigations along the routes, which were in a poor condition in places due to the effects of weather and geology.
They were treated with a combination of drainage, piling, earth works and resurfacing, including the erection of crash barriers.
The original closure was for a period of 12 weeks from March 3. However, favourable weather conditions, along with contractors working extended hours and weekends, has significantly reduced the closure period.
It has also allowed other minor works to be undertaken at the same time without further impact on the road network.
County councillor Gareth Dadd, executive member for highways, said: “We are very pleased to be able to open the road earlier than scheduled.
“The county council would like to take this opportunity of thanking the local community, local businesses and visitors to the area for working with us and for their patience during this closure period.”
Wet weather during the last week has meant that the roadworks between Stainton Lane and the B6270 to A6108 junction have not been completed.
Details of the one day closure will be given on site when a date is agreed.
