THE team behind a successful food event are looking for volunteers to give them a hand this year.

Northallerton’s award-winning Homegrown Food Festival will this year be held on June 29 and the group behind it is looking for people willing to become “festival makers.”

Volunteer duties range from assisting renowned local and celebrity chefs in the food theatre, site-marshalling, to site set-up and tear down – and, for the more adventurous, even dressing up in vegetable costumes.

To be part of the event contact the chair of the Homemade Food Group, Sally Anderson, on 07906 662403.

As a run-up to the festival the group is also inviting people to join in a special “Homegrown Forage” in Northallerton’s town square on May 17 from 10am to 1pm.

Wild food and survival expert Dave Tully will be on hand to show the variety of the “food for free” growing in hedgerows and green spaces in and around the town.

The event will mark the launch of the Northallerton Wild Food Map which will be on display at the festival.

*The group is holding its AGM and a volunteer information evening on May 15 at 6.30pm, upstairs at the Tithe Bar, Friarage Street, Northallerton.
