HIGH-flying students have been praised for their work by Cleveland's Police and Crime Commissioner.

Barry Coppinger joined Ormesby School pupils to celebrate their achievements at a special assembly highlighting the exemplary work and behaviour of students from Year 7 to Year 10.

The students were awarded for their high level of attendance, for being punctual, or for demonstrating excellent progress in their studies to date.

Mr Coppinger said “I am delighted to visit Ormesby School to recognise the good work the school and its pupils are doing.

“It’s important to say thank you to people for good work because it can encourage them and others to develop. I’m confident that these youngsters will go on to greater things.”

As a part of the visit Mr Coppinger gave an overview of his role and students had the opportunity to quiz the PCC and ask any questions.

Associate headteacher Sue Thompson, from Ormesby School said: “We were very pleased that Mr Coppinger could spare some time to visit our school and see the dedicated and hardworking pupils that we have.

“Students are reaching exceptional attainment levels in many areas and it is great that we can share this outstanding news. We look forward to developing our relationship further with Mr Coppinger in the future.”

The PCC has visited hundreds of schools, meetings and public events since he was appointed to the role to ensure that they have as much input as possible into his future plans and policies for the force.
