CROWDS are expected to line the streets when the RAF celebrates its freedom of the county town of North Yorkshire.

Personnel from nearby RAF Leeming are polishing their shoes and practising drill as they prepare to parade through Northallerton on Sunday, May 11.

And local people are being called on to give their support to the afternoon’s spectacle.

The station is celebrating its links with the local community at the Freedom of Northallerton Parade which will include the display of the Illuminated Address, presented in 1978 as a permanent record of the links and goodwill with the town.

Following a service in All Saints’ Church, personnel will be marching along the High Street, accompanied by the Band of the Royal Air Force Regiment.

The event will also be marked by a flypast of four Hawk jets from 100 Squadron, based at RAF Leeming.

The parade will form up at 2pm and set off at 2.30pm, subject to weather conditions.
