A 54-YEAR-OLD walker suffering hypothermia was rescued after becoming disorientated in a remote area of the North York Moors.

Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team were called out for the 13th time this year at 9pm on Tuesday (May 6) after a mountain biker from Ingleby Greenhow, near Great Ayton, encountered the lost walker near Bloworth Crossing, one of the highest points of the national park.

The cyclist became concerned about the man's condition and phoned a friends, who is a member of the rescue team, for advice.

The team dispatched one of its ambulances and located the wet and cold walker, who had been escorted off the moor tops by the cyclist.

The walker had set out from his Guisborough home and became lost when the weather deteriorated and darkness fell.

Team spokesman, Pete Mounsey said: “This gentleman was very lucky to have been found by the mountain biker as he would have been unlikely to survive the night on the remote moor top without any food or adequate equipment.”
