FIREFIGHTERS tackled a fire involving a JCB in a building site compound at the weekend.

Crews from Grangetown fire station attended the incident at Keepmoat Construction in Thorntree, Middlesbrough, at around 10.15pm on Saturday night.

The vehicle was alight on the arrival of the crews and a hose reel jet appliance was used to extinguish the flames.

It took around 30 minutes to put out the fire, which destroyed the driver’s cab and damaged the engine.

CHURCH DISPLAY: The South Billingham Methodist Church’s Knit and Natter group will be holding an exhibition and selling various items on Thursday, May 8, from 11am to 6pm. The exhibition, at the church on Station Road, Billingham, is to raise funds for the church and car parking is available.
