THE role of a historic country house in the Seconf World War is to be remembered in a military re-enactment event.

Kiplin Hall will open its doors on Sunday, May 11 for We’ll Meet Again, where visitors can view a full-size replica Spitfire in the hall’s grounds.

During the day there will be RAF displays on the ground, Battle of Britain display and talks, code breaking, parachute mine demonstration, butterfly bomb disposal, grenade throwing, Canadian aircraft nose art, Dig for Victory, and Leyburn Band will play in the afternoon.

In June 1940, the house provided a place of recovery for men from the 1st Battalion of the East Lancashire Regiment, who had been rescued from the beaches at Dunkirk.

Two years later, Kiplin was requisitioned by the Royal Air Force to supply bombs and ammunition to the local airfields.

Inside the hall, which opens at 2pm, there will be wartime songs, recollections of a soldier of his time at Kiplin, and a talk about life on the home front.

The exhibition Duty Calls, Kiplin Hall in Times of War, gives an insight into the involvement of the hall, its owners, and local communities in conflicts from the Civil War to the Second World War.

Visitors are encouraged to dress up for the day.

Kiplin Hall grounds and tea room open at 10am and the hall at 2pm. All close at 5pm. Kiplin Hall is located off the B6271 Scorton to Northallerton road.
