A HOST of classical greats will be performed at a newly opened auditorium to showcase the talents of the Yarm Festival Orchestra and Choral Society.

The concert, which is being led by James Armitage and directed by Yarm School’s director of music, Katie Staggs, will see the choir and orchestra combine to perform classics, including Vivaldi’s much celebrated Gloria and Cantique de Jean Racine by Fauré.

She said: “The evening should be a fantastic occasion for all those interested in classical music, as well as to people who are new to it. There will be plenty of talented musicians and singers on show, and the concert is accessible for children with our guided listening activities, so there will be a something for everyone in an impressive location.”

The orchestra consists of professional musicians from the North East and Yorkshire, many who have played with national orchestras, with the cello section consisting of players who have played with The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, The Liverpool Philharmonic, The BBC Symphony Orchestra, Opera North and the Northern Sinfonia.

The vocal soloists are Penny Randall-Davies and Nikki Lycett-Findlay who will be joined by the counter tenor Stefan Roberts.

Tickets for the concert, which takes place on May 11 at 6pm, are priced at £8 for adults and £5 for children.
