Stockton Duathlon Festival hosted two international qualification races which took over the town centre today (Sunday).

About 1,000 people signed up for the run-cycle-run races which featured a novice event and a standard distance race made up of a 10k run, 40k cycle and 5k run which was the final qualifier for the 2014 World Championships in Spain.

It also featured a sprint route comprising of a 5k run, 20k cycle and ending with a 2.5k run which was a qualifier for the ETU European Championships in 2015.

A spokesperson for racing experts Trihard, said: “A bit like the Great North Run, the aim of Stockton Borough Council and Trihard is to build this race into one of the premiere duathlon events in the country catering for elite athletes as well as absolute beginners over three separate races.”
