COLLEAGUES from the oil and gas industry will need all the energy they can generate to finish a charity bike ride which will see them pedalling up to 70 miles a day.

The 17 strong team, mostly from Teesside are challenging themselves to ride 326 miles from GDF SUEZ E&P UK’s office in Farringdon, London, back to the North-East where a work project is being contructed.

The epic journey from May 1 to May 5, taking in Cambridge, Boston, Lincoln and York.

They are aiming to climb off their saddles at The Masham pub in Hartburn Village, Stockton, at about 4pm on Bank Holiday Monday.

Mike Manders, Project Engineer at AUQ – Construction, said the ambitious feat was to raise money for Cancer Research UK as two of the people in the team, Martin Flynn and Phil Collins, have recently lost loved ones to the disease.

“Cancer something that has touched all of our families and friends in recent times, and it is our goal to raise monies to hopefully find a cure for the research that could help future generations," he said.
