A CYCLIST is fighting for his life after a collision with a car yesterday (Saturday, April 26).
The 41-year-old, from Darlington, sustained head and chest injuries in the collision, which happened at 2.20pm on the A68 at the crossroads with Houghton Bank Lane, near Heighington.
He was flown by the Great North Air Ambulance to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, where he remains in a critical condition.
The road was closed for about four hours in both directions while officers from Durham and Cleveland Roads Policing Unit worked on the scene.
One car was involved in the collision.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to call 101.
