EMERGENCY services are at the scene of a road accident in Darlington in which a 57-year old grandmother was injured.

The woman was driving her silver Renault Megane when it was in collision with a black Mazda at the junction of Park Lane and Parkside in the town shortly after 6.30pm.

It is understood she had been on her way home after visiting her daughter and grandchildren.

She was placed on a stretcher with a neck brace in place and taken to hospital.

Mrs Lund's condition is unknown at present. It is believed she was freed from the vehicle by firefighters.

The occupants of the Mazda are believed to be unharmed.

Parkside is closed to traffic in an area known locally as 'Skinny Bridge'.
