THE family of an eight-year-old girl who underwent a lifesaving liver transplant as a baby are planning a charity fun day.

Eight-year-old Tegan Ross, of Darlington, was diagnosed with biliary atresia, a condition involving a build-up of bile which causes damage to the liver.

She was forced to undergo a liver transplant at nine months at St James' Hospital, Leeds.

Last year, her father, Gavin Ross, and his partner Sarah Redden, of Newton Aycliffe, raised £1,160 for the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation by staging a fun day in their home town and this year they hope to be equally successful.

The couple also aims to raise awareness of liver disease and the need for donors.

Miss Redden said: “Quite a lot of little ones are born with liver problems and we want to raise awareness of this, while supporting a worthwhile cause.”

The event, at Newton Aycliffe Youth and Community Centre on Saturday, June 14, will feature a bouncy castle, face-painting, glitter tattoos, sweets and craft stalls and a visit from Fireman Sam.

Tegan’s mother, Michelle Davidson, and other family members will also be helping out at the event, which runs from noon to 3pm.
