Alternative World Cup song launched at St George's Day party in Thirsk

CROWDS turned out for a St George’s Day party to launch a pop song which comedian Chubby Brown and former X-factor contestants Journey South hope will become the number one single during the World Cup in Brazil.

The event, outside Tesco in Thirsk, saw Middlesbrough-based duo Andy and Carl Pemberton perform the Hopes Of A Thousand Men, which is available for pre-order and will be released on June 1.

Around 200 people also watched a preview of the video for the song, which was shot at several locations in the Thirsk area. Local acts also performed at the event.

Robin Ward, of Thirsk, hopes his reworking of the 1981 punk hit Swords of a Thousand Men, by Tenpole Tudor, will see off competition from Gary Barlow's official Cup song Greatest Day.

It's sounds awful! Can't stand Roy Chubby Brown anyway - his humour is so crass and outdated, and who are Journey South?! I don't remember them. But what's really awful is for them to say they want to beat the official world cup song by the two Garys, as that's a CHARITY single, all the money from Greatest Day is going to Sports Relief. They should be ashamed of themselves for saying that.

KSF4321 think its appalling you slating these local people for trying to do something, if you knew anything about this you would also know that these local people are also supporting a charity as is Chubby Brown. Maybe before slating you should perhaps get your facts right. Sincerely hope that this wonderful song does not get into your head and you sing along with it as it is a good song and worthy of getting to number one !!! Perhaps you also need to try doing something with your life instead of narrow minded comments that are not needed. !!!
