A FIRST WORLD War expert will be giving an insight into the literature of the conflict at a series of talks in North Yorkshire.
Trevor Boag, a retired deputy headteacher and English teacher, is giving a talk introducing the literature of the war at a number of libraries.
He guides student and adult groups to the Western Front in Belgium and France and gives talks to local groups such as the Women’s Institute, Rotary and Lions Clubs and Local History Societies.
The aim of the short talks is to show how the literature, written at the time and since, reflected different and changing attitudes to the war.
It is also hoped they will encourage people to borrow from the libraries’ resources in order to pursue their interest in the war.
The talks are free but tickets need to be reserved in advance at the library as places are limited. Donations to the work of the Royal British Legion are invited at the end of each talk.
Dates include May 1 Kirkbymoorside library at 7pm; July 1 Scarborough library at 3.30pm; September 5 Scalby library at 7pm; September 9 Helmsley libvrary at 7pm; October 23 Whitby library at 2pm; November 15 Pickering library at 2pm; December 5 Malton library at 2pm.
The talks are one of many programmes of events North Yorkshire libraries are holding to commemorate the First World War, full details of which can be seen at northyorks.gov.uk/firstworldwar
