Comedian's love of cake leads to temporary career change as he serves up tea in Middlesbrough shop
Updated 4:24pm Tuesday 22nd April 2014 in News
A COMDIAN’S love of cake saw him serving up a treat for some surprised shoppers.
TV funnyman Patrick Monahan prepared for his upcoming gig at Middlesbrough Town Hall Crypt by serving customers with their morning tea and cake at the Olde Young Tea House.
The Teessider, who is currently on a busy 43-date national tour, is now looking forward to bringing last year’s sell-out Edinburgh Festival hit Cake Charmer plus some brand new material to his ‘hometown gig.’ He said: “Cake Charmer is a show about the things that make people happy. And, let’s face it, cake is right up there with the best of them.
“I seriously love cake. Some people like to wind down after a gig with a drink. I prefer a cup of tea and a slice of cake.
“So spending the morning helping out and surrounded by cake in a gorgeous little tea house like this is absolutely spot on.”
He added: “The tour’s going great, the audiences have been lovely, but I can’t wait to be back in Boro.
“The Town Hall was always something to look up to when I was growing up, so playing there is always extra special as far as I’m concerned.”
He will be performing at the Middlesbrough Town Hall Crypt on Saturday, May 17. Tickets costing £14 or £12 are available from the box office on 01642-729729 or www.middlesbroughtownhallonline.co.uk
