A MASTER prop maker for some of the biggest blockbusters in the last ten years has now been accepted into an elite group of furniture crafters.
Craig Narramore, from Northallerton, was snapped up to work on Star Wars Episode 1 straight from his model making and special effects course at university in 1997, and since then has worked on big budget films such as Skyfall, Harry Potter, Batman Begins, Captain America and Sherlock Holmes.
His most recent project is building props for upcoming film Hercules and he has been working as a prop dresser for the new series of 24.
Mr Narramore said: “I have always had an interest in furniture making and after a few people saw the pieces I was working on asked me to do some for them.
“I made a table for Tom Cruise’s dressing room when he was working on a film, and for Hercules I made a huge 12 metre table for a feast hall scene.
“I have also had work featured in the Grand Designs magazine and on the Financial Times website.”
Mr Narramore exhibited some of his furniture pieces at a gallery event in London last year, which impressed chairman of the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers who invited Mr Narramore to join the society as a freeman.
He said: “Being part of the company gives an added prestige to my work, and means after I have been a members for a couple of years can get my work Guild Marked.”
Despite the progression of his furniture-making career, Mr Narramore is still firmly fixed in the film-making world and will soon be working on Pan, a new Peter Pan film due to be released in 2015.
He said: “The UK is very good for film making and everyone has a lot of respect for the British film industry so there is a lot of work at the moment.
“But in the last year I have worked all over the place, including Malta, Prague and Germany, doing a mix of model and prop making and special effects.”
“I will be working on Pan this year but I can’t say anything about that at all yet for contractual reasons.”
