A PARISH council has presented a cheque to the Friends of the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton towards its MRI Scanner Appeal.

Londonderry, Leeming and Newton Parish Council Chairman John Kettlewell presented the cheque for £3,000 to Friends of the Friarage Chairman Brian Thompson at the hospital where a new appeal progress board has been erected.

The amount raised was from the proceeds of the parish council’s annual harvest festival raffle held at the Green Dragon, Exelby.

The amount included £750 match funding donation from Barclays Bank Bedale, organised by Sandra Whitwham.

Mr Thompson said: “We wish to thank the parish council for this donation which helps us toward our pledge to raise £500,000 towards the MRI Scanner Appeal target of £2m.

“We are very pleased to endorse this appeal for a vital piece of equipment which should help protect the future of our hospital and reduce travel and waiting times for patients in the Hambleton and Richmondshire area.”

Anyone wishing to fundraise or donate should contact Friends secretary Denise Passman on 01609-762013.
