POLICE are appealing for information a Vauxhall Astra van collided with a Suzuki Swift in Denmark Street, Darlington, at about 7.30pm, on Saturday (April 5).

PC Jim Edwards, of Darlington police said extensive damage was caused to the driver’s side of the Suzuki.

He added: “The owner of the Suzuki swift returned shortly after but the driver of the offending vehicle had already left the scene leaving no details, it is believed this second vehicle will also have substantial damage.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.

HOUSE BURGLARY: Two televisions were stolen when a house in Belgrave Street was broken into between Friday, March 7 and Friday, March 14. David McKenna, from Darlington’s offender management unit, said: “I believe that someone has entered this property and taken several items which include a 42-inch Hitachi flat screen TV, a 19-inch Hitachi flat screen TV, Sony PS3 games console and two games - FIFA 11 and FIFA 14.” Anyone with information is asked to call the priority crime team, in Darlington, on 01325-742270.

COFFEE MORNING: Heighington WI will hold a coffee morning in Heighington village hall, from 10am to noon. Admission costs £1.50 including a scone and tea or coffee. There will also be a cake stall and tombola.

LITTER PICK: There will be a litter-pick in Heighington, Redworth and School Aycliffe on Saturday (April 12). Meet at 10am at Heighington village hall. Other meeting points are 2 Main Road, Redworth and Old Farm Cottage, School Aycliffe. Refreshments will be served in the village hall at noon.

US TRIP: Politics students from Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College, in Darlington, joined counterparts from Shropshire on a trip to Washington DC. Their aim was to gain an understanding of the US political system. The sights they visited included the US Capitol building, the Supreme Court and the Lincoln Memorial. A college spokeswoman said the trip was a huge success, with students from both colleges mixing well.

ANNUAL MEETING: St Cuthbert’s Church will hold its annual parish meeting on Tuesday, April 29, at 7.30pm, in the church hall. Each parish is required to hold an annual meeting, during which reports are given, either written or verbally, about the past year’s activities, the state of the buildings and the financial position.

MOTHERS’ MEETING: A meeting of the Mothers’ Union will be held at Bannatyne Hotel, in Southend Avenue, at 7pm for 7.30pm. There will be a social event and a meal. The subsequent meeting will be held on Thursday, April 24, at 2pm, at St Cuthbert’s Church Hall. Paul Gilmore will give an illustrated talk on church fonts.
