Police called after car spotted in pedestrianised part of Darlington town centre

Darlington and Stockton Times: CASH DASH: Police at the scene of this morning's incident in High Row CASH DASH: Police at the scene of this morning's incident in High Row

A MAN was arrested after apparently driving through a no entry sign in a pedestrianised area during a bungled effort to reach a high street cash machine.

CCTV cameras picked up the 60-year-old carrying out the unusual manoeuvre in High Row, Darlington, on Friday (April 4) morning.

Officers were sent to the scene and the man was arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through alcohol or drugs.

The man appears to have reversed his black Ford Ford Fiesta on to High Row at the junction with Bondgate.

It is understood he was trying to use the cash dispenser at the Santander bank.

No one in the bank saw the incident.

Inspector Chris Knox, of Darlington police, said: “CCTV monitored a vehicle driving between bollards in a pedestrianised area.

“The vehicle was stopped in High Row and the driver displayed strange behaviour.

“We have got a 60-year-old man from the Darlington area in custody.”

I saw this guy in the car park at the council 30 minutes before, music full blast dancing round the car, then to see him there at Santander what an idiot.

This gut could have killed someone but will probably end up with a 12 month ban and 200 hours community service

Tthe video l've got of the journey from the High Row to the Police Station is too large to send, this is just a clip.of My Car where l was stopped..

I passed both Breath Tests and gave a blood sample, but they won't find anything, all l did was go to Barclays Bank then at the end of High Row l was stopped by two Traffic Warden's and told it was after 10am (About 5 past 10) then a Police Van arrived and took me to the Police Station for 6.5 hours.

Why didn't he just do society a favour and execute his nonce scum son? Should a senior police officer pervert the course of justice to try and protect his son, when his son is raping kids?

He should have disposed of the trash, and then he could have continued his career, and society would have been all the better. A win-win.

The main headline in here states "Drunk driver in Darlington cash dash drama". How can The Echo make such a bold claim that he was "drunk" when all the Police have done is perform a breath test? This case hasn't even been to court yet.

And why are people giving "thumbs down" to someone claiming to be the driver who says he provided tests but they came back negative? I'm all for press freedom but let's be fair and true to people.

I have known this man for a number of years. He is, without a shadow of doubt, eccentric. He is not a danger to anyone, he rarely drinks. The "strange behaviour" witnessed by the police is simply Teado being Teado' It would be a sad world where characters like him are suppressed and made to conform to a sanitized and over regulated standard. This man was my bombers, my dexys, my high, Oh-Oh oh TEADO!

You will soon change your tune when they start using your beloved CCTV to give you a hefty fine for just stopping a few seconds on double yellow lines to answer an important phone call or using them to scan hours of footage to try to find someone dropping a sweet wrapper in order to identify and send out fines to the 'criminal' doing these heinous acts....Then when your house gets burgled and you report it,the police turn up 24 hrs later to give you a crime number and offer tea and sympathy, with no-one caught for it of course.
This is how easy it is to train the docile, propaganda addicted, easily led, plebeian masses to endorse something that will only,in time,be used to tax and fine you into the ground.

Yet another example of a non story, how the Echo can justify paying someone to write this is beyond me, still if it wasn't this it wouold be another fascinating slice of Duncan Bannatyne's life.
