DARLINGTON vet Jason Atherton will run the Edinburgh half-marathon next month, to raise funds for animal rescue charities.

Mr Atherton is a director of Westway Veterinary Group, which took over Value Vets, in Yarm Road, Darlington, in February.

He will take part in the run with his wife, Jill. The pair have raised more than £10,000 for animal rescue charities in recent years.

Mr Atherton said: “Money is tight for everyone at the moment and animals are bearing the brunt of that, with many of them ending up homeless through no fault of their own.”

Funds raised will be split between Gateshead animal refuge Brysons, the People’s Animal Rescue and Rehoming Team and Westway’s own strays fun.

Sponsor forms are in Value Vets, in Darlington, and Westway’s other branches across the region.
