ANIMAL charity PDSA has revealed that more than half of all North-East pet owners admit to feeding their animal dangerous fatty foods.

Exclusive PDSA research shows that 58 per cent of pet owners in the region give their pets fatty treats, contributing to a worrying increase in obesity among the nation’s pets.

Elaine Pendlebury, PDSA senior veterinary surgeon, said that dealing with overweight animals was now an everyday occurrence for vets and she described animal obesity as a “silent killer”.

She added: “It’s tragic to think that millions of pets are suffering under the strain of carrying too much weight, when it is an entirely preventable condition.”
