THE winners of a children’s writing competition have been announced.

Children from Richmond, Catterick and Colburn took part in a writing competition run by North Yorkshire County Council’s Richmond Library, on the theme of winter and in no more than 500 words.

The entrants were split into two categories - years three and four, and years five and six.

More than 100 entry forms were taken and three judges had to come up with a shortlist.

The 12 children who had reached the shortlist were invited to a presentation ceremony at Catterick Library where head judge, author Kevin Brooks, announced the winners.

Each category was awarded third, second and first prizes. All the judges commented on the high standard of stories submitted and the difficulty over choosing the winners.

Winners in years three and four were: Thomas Blenkiron, James Gregory, and Isabella Stolarski; and in years five and six winners were: Emily Rosher, Tyler Bagley, and Torin O'Neill.
