A ZUMBA teacher is well on her way to smashing her £50,000 fundraising target after a completing a marathon workout session.

Around 50 people took part in the three-hour long zumbathon, at Mercure Kings Hotel, in Darlington, today (Sunday, March 23), hosted by fundraiser Gillian Clason.

The 33-year-old, of Darlington, began fundraising for the Children with Cancer charity in memory of her friend’s son, Henry Valks, who was three when he died of leukaemia in 2009.

Having smashed her £40,000 fundraising target last year, Miss Clason set her sights on raising a further £10,000 this year.

Today’s event raised around £740, bringing her current total to just under £45,000.

She said: “It was really good, we had around 50 people taking part throughout the day.”

The event was sponsored by Sparta Security, who donated £100, and the Mercure Kings Hotel allowed Miss Clason to use the room free of charge.

Miss Clason has already taken part in several marathons and sponsored bike rides in aid of the charity, and will compete in the London Marathon in April, as well as the Great North Run, the Berlin Marathon and the Ride 100 bike ride in London.
