DARLINGTON precision driver, Paul Swift, is to star in a US television series about people with special powers.

Swift, who runs Paul Swift Precision Driving, is the self-professed squadron leader of the BBC's Top Gear Live stunt driving team and son of the legendary Russ Swift.

He has travelled to Las Vegas to film the series Stan Lee's Superhumans.

The series is co-hosted by Stan Lee, the legendary creator of the X-Men and scours the globe for the real-life counterparts of Lee's characters.

These include a man whose body is powerfully magnetic, another who can withstand deadly levels of cold and yet another whose brain performs complex calculations at staggering speeds.

"Its a series about people with unique skills," Swift said. "They are looking for genetic traits and people who have abilities that aren't normal.

"I think they have asked me because of my reactions and my spacial awareness. They are doing it at the speedway and will set up a mirrored maze which I have to work my way through."

The programme will be a shown on the Discovery Channel on a date to be announced.
