A DEAL has been struck to bring a popular award-winning farmers’ market to Middlesbrough’s Stewart Park.

The park and Northern Dales Farmers Markets have joined forces to develop a monthly event within the grounds, with the first taking place on Sunday, March 23, between 9am and 2.30pm.

It will start with 18 stalls selling a vast array of items including cheese, bread, meats, plants and herbs, while the Stewart Park craft fair will also be continuing, running until 3pm.

Northern Dales Farmers Markets is behind a host of markets in the region, including the monthly Stokesley event in north Yorkshire which was announced last week as the National Farmers’ Market of the Year by the National Farmers’ Retail and Markets Association.

Stewart Park has hosted its own market since May last year, with its craft fair running since September 2012.

Marton Councillor Tom Mawston, Chairman of the Friends of Stewart Park group, said: “Northern Dales Farmers Markets have a great track record in hosting fantastic markets across the region, proved by their recent national award."

Nigel Davison, market manager of Northern Dales Farmers Markets, said: “We are all very excited about providing a new market at Stewart Park - the setting is beautiful and perfect for what we want to create.

“We hope we will be able to bring the magic of Stokesley and our other markets to Stewart Park – we will have a lot of the same stalls selling a wide variety of fantastic produce.”
