A VETERINARY science student from North Yorkshire has received a special award in recognition of her dedication to work placement at a racing yard.
Amy Wilson, 23, of Manfield, near Darlington, is studying a BSc (Hons) Bioveterinary Science at the Harper Adams agricultural university in Shropshire and has received an Aspire Award - a prize given to students who have made the most of their placement year.
She was presented with a certificate and £50 by the university's deputy vice-chancellor, Professor Peter Mills.
Amy, who worked for Ann Duffield Racing in North Yorkshire, said: "I was responsible for general duties such as riding out and yard work and working alongside the vets.
"There were 70 horses at the yard so I learnt a lot from working alongside the vets and seeing some of the problems first hand.
"It didn't even cross my mind that I would win this award, so it's really nice to have some recognition for working hard."
The majority of courses at Harper Adams feature a placement year, providing on-the-job training for students in a professional environment.
Amy hopes to continue her studies at vet school following graduation from Harper Adams in September.
