A TEESDALE school has become the latest in County Durham to achieve an outstanding Osfted report.

Toft Hill Primary School, near Bishop Auckland, received the accolade after inspectors visited in February.

Head Janice Stobbs said: “Staff, pupils and governors are delighted with the Ofsted judgement and the findings of the report.

“We are all immensely proud of the school and our achievement.”

Inspectors praised the behaviour of the school's 160 pupils as well as the leadership and the rapid and sustained progress of the children.

Toft Hill's after and before school clubs were praised and the support of the wider teaching staff and governors was also highlighted.

Toft Hill is now one of 54 Durham County Council primary, infant and junior schools to have been rated outstanding.

Head of education Caroline O’Neill said: “It truly is a fantastic achievement to be ranked outstanding and the staff, pupils and wider school community should be extremely pleased.

“In the report, inspectors praised head teacher Mrs Stobbs, highlighting her desire to inspire.

“They also praised reception class staff, who achieve very high standards in teaching the younger children to read and write, but all staff, parents, governors and pupils should be very pleased with this excellent award.”
