A MOTHER-OF-TWO has used inspiration from her children’s passions to win a coveted baking accolade.
Judges at Cake International in Manchester handed Jenny Lofthouse, of Sowerby, near Thirsk, North Yorkshire, a silver award for her sculpted novelty class entry titled Sons and Daughters.
The ballet and rugby-themed cake took Mrs Lofthouse, who launched her Darrowby Cakes business last summer, three weeks to create.
The 44-year-old said while she had always enjoyed making cakes, she had only started taking baking and decorating seriously last year.
Mrs Lofthouse: “As I walked into the exhibition, I felt sick with nerves as the cakes where all so amazing, so you can imagine my shock when I won the silver award.
“I got to speak to the judge and he said he was amazed at the standard of my cake for the length of time I have been doing it and how it had nearly won a gold award.”
