A CRICKETING hero will be the star guest at a Yorkshire Dales Rivers Trust charity auction in North Yorkshire.

Sir Ian Botham will attend the event at Swinton Park, Masham, on Saturday, March 22.

Lots range from fishing on Yorkshire’s best trout streams to learning croquet and a cookery bootcamp.

All proceeds from the auction will be used to fund the work of YDRT in cooperating with local farmers and communities on a range of projects to improve the environmental quality of local streams and rivers.

Trust chairman Andy Brown said: “Our becks and rivers are beautiful but hide a range of problems from erosion causing high sediment loads which smothers fish spawning areas to heavy metal pollution from old mines.

“Join in our auction to help look after Dales rivers and have fun at the same time.” Tickets to attend the auction can be obtained through the Eventbrite website or from Nick Buck at East Farmhouse, Langthorne, Bedale, DL8 1PQ.

Bids can also be made via the YDRT website at yorkshiredalesriverstrust.com.
