A CONTEST to find knitted characters hiding in shop window displays draws to a close this Sunday (March 16).

A group of anonymous knitters in Northallerton organised a trail of woollen figures from children’s literature to be hidden amongst window displays in the town for World Book Day.

The figures have remained in place for several weeks and entry forms for people to fill in with the locations of the figures have been made available at Northallerton Library.

People have until Sunday (March 16) to complete the contest, when the characters will be collected in and put on display at Northallerton Library.

There, they will be auctioned off in a silent bid with all proceeds going to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

A spokeswoman for the group of knitters, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “We’ve increased footfall into shops taking part, including two new businesses who were delighted and I’ve seen lots of happy little faces up and down the High Street on sunny weekends enjoying the trail.”

The group has also set up a Facebook page, World Book Day Trail 2014, for updates and silent bids.
