TV viewers will get the chance to go behind-the-scenes at one of Britain’s greatest religious buildings this weekend.

A three-part documentary series on York Minster is being launched on BBC One on Sunday at 4.45pm.

A small team from the BBC filmed at the Minster throughout 2013 - capturing the work that ensures the largest medieval Gothic cathedral north of the Alps runs smoothly for all.

Executive producer Nicola Addyman said: "The documentary goes right to the heart of York Minster during a year when it is in the middle of a huge restoration project and follows the people that make it tick.”

She added: "This will help people realise the massive amount of work - and love - that goes on behind the scenes to keep such a wonderful building alive for the whole country, if not the world, to enjoy."

The Dean of York, the Very Reverend Vivienne Faull, added: “Last year was a hugely busy year at York Minster with the conservation and restoration of the Great East Window well underway and the opening in the spring of our refurbished Undercroft exhibition.

“It’s been a great opportunity to have the BBC here to capture not only these major milestones but all the work and activity by staff and volunteers which happens on a daily basis and makes York Minster such a special place.”

The series will be repeated on BBC Two later this year.
